The ability to meditate is built-in to the human body. You can meditate. And most likely, you could enjoy meditating. In order to get the great benefits a daily meditation practice offers - the ability to be relaxed and focused even under stress, strengthening of the immune system, healing of stress-related illness, and general happiness of the heart, you need to meditate every day. And in order to do that, there is a set of skills you need to learn.
There is a wealth of useful and free information on this site to help you learn those skills, whether you are a beginner or an expert meditator. There are links to good books and audio CDs.
My name is Lorin Roche and I have been teaching meditation for 36 years, since 1968 when I started working in a lab at the University of California that was doing physiological research on meditation. My greatest delight in the world is helping people to find the particular style and type of meditation that suits their individuality. In other words, Meditate Right For Your Type. Even if you are the only member of your type.
Toward that end, I have written five books on meditation, several of which are listed on the right menu column. Some of these are also available in Spanish, German, Japanese, Dutch, and a few other languages. My wife, Camille, and I wrote Meditation Secrets for Women together, and it is a treasure trove of meditation practices and journal exercises you can do to explore your individual nature.
Everyone is different, so to get you started, you may want to begin with an audio CD such as the one that comes with Meditation 24/7, which contains 14 different guided meditations you can explore.
