I have started to record and upload The Radiance Sutras. Since most of the translating was done between 3 in the morning and dawn, I am calling this series the Brahma Muhurta Sessions. In Vedic timekeeping, this is regarded as a most auspicious time for yoga and meditation. The exact time of Brahma Muhurta changes with the seasons and the time of sunrise. If the sun rises at 6 a.m., then the Hour of Brahma starts at a few minutes after 4 in the morning.

Muhurta

In Vedic timekeeping, a muhurta is about 48 minutes, and is a moveable feast, depending upon the seasons and when the sun rises. When dawn is at 6 a.m., Brahma Muhurta starts at 4:08 and goes until 4:56. Then it is Samudrama Mudra from 4:56 to 5:44.

When I really feel desperate to get attuned, or I am on the hunt for language to translate a sutra, I jump out of bed at 3 a.m. or so, in order to be well prepared to ride the wave of energy that comes around 4. That’s been my main pattern the last 20 years. It’s like sneaking off to have a date with a lover.

There are many rasas or divine moods for reading The Radiance Sutras – ecstatic, erotic, enthusiastic, meditative. This is my 4 in the morning rasa – tender, almost whispering. Shanta.
